how to delete backup files in windows 10

As with all other operating systems, when Windows 10 comes with an update or service pack, windows creates a backup file at your request, so that the changes can be undone. The purpose of this is to restore the change if the service pack or update you install causes problems on your computer in the future. However, if you do not have any problems, the backup files will take up unnecessary space on your device when the storage space of your computer is low in the future.

How to Delete Backup Files in Windows 10

This is a procedure that requires some precision. An accidental error or deletion of the wrong file may cause errors on your computer that you cannot fix without rebooting the device. That is why I recommend you to be very careful during this process.

First of all, let's go to the file directory where windows is installed. This is Windows in C:  in My Computer. Here we find many folders compressed by the windows. Pay attention to the $ symbol at the beginning of their name to distinguish them from these folders. These files usually have names like $NtUninstall, $MSI, $NtServicePack. You will also see Uninstall in the name of each of these folders. If you do not see these files within your windows directory, click the Show hidden folders button in the folder options. If this is not the case, remove the checkbox at the beginning of the Hide protected operating system files in the same directory. After these steps, invisible files will definitely appear. After that, find the service pack you want to delete and press Del. Confirm the operation by pressing the yes button in the section that appears. But be careful! Never delete any file that does not have Uninstall in its name.

Think carefully before you delete the backup files. Because deleting backup files will prevent you from deleting installed update and service packs, and you would have to reboot your computer in case of a possible system error.
